Kyriakos Varypatakis

Originally from Greece, Kyriakos Varypatakis holds an integrated BSc/MSc degree in Agricultural Engineering (faculty of Plant Sciences) from the Agricultural University of Athens and a MSc degree in Plant Sciences (specialisation of Plant Pathology) from Wageningen University, Netherlands.  In 2015, he joined the nematology group at The James Hutton Institute as a PhD student. 

Kyriakos Varypatiakis' research is focused on the identification of avirulence genes in Globodera pallida using target enrichment sequencing on populations slected for high virulence on the resistance sources H3 and Solanum vernei. As part of this work, and that of the GLOBAL Project, he performed whole-genome resequencing of these populations for variant calling working in collaboration with Benjamin Mimee's research team of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
